Building & ZoningEnding Self-CertificationThe Bloomberg Administration’s policy of allowing architects to self-certify the building plans of construction projects must end. The city government must have oversight and regulation of construction and building integrity to ensure public safety. Too many developers and commercial property owners have abused this policy and our neighborhoods are suffering because of it. Daniel Dromm will lead the fight to end this destructive policy. Expanding Historic DistrictThe demolition of numerous one-family and two-family houses throughout our area has brought into focus the need to expand the Historic District in Jackson Heights. As your city council representative, one of Daniel Dromm’s first acts in office will be to pursue legislation that will expand the historic district to protect the historic character of this wonderful neighborhood. Increasing Enforcement of Building ViolationsThe city government is unprepared for the explosion of development that our area has undergone. The Department of Buildings is underfunded and understaffed. As your city council representative, Daniel Dromm will author legislation to direct more resources and personnel to the enforcement division of the DOB to ensure that buildings are safe and that contractors are following the building code. Local Control of ZoningFair and sustainable zoning is the bedrock of a successful neighborhood. Yet we have seen abuses in our area over the past few years that have undermined the value of residential quality-of-life and people’s faith in the city’s ability to oversee zoning and construction. As your city council representative, Daniel Dromm will introduce legislation that will require a review of all zoning laws in the city and will enable residents to have a say in what gets built in their own communities. |
